The Beauty of the Berry

Blueberries can stand on their own quite easily, especially when grown to perfection in the heart of the Willamette Valley, located in Oregon’s rich farmland. These crisp, plump and juicy berries can take center stage at your next dinner party, or can be used as an accent to brighten up your sweet or savory side dish.

Rich in antioxidants, blueberries are one of the most nutritious fruits, as they have been “proven to protect against aging, cancer and damage to your DNA”. (Dietician Julia Zumpano, Cleveland Clinic) Because blueberries are low in calories, they are nutrient dense and immune builders with one cup providing 24% daily value Vitamin C. Health experts have also credited blueberries in the management of high cholesterol, as well as reducing blood sugar and blood pressure. They are referred to as “vitamins” in our house when my toddler is looking for a snack mid afternoon.

Our favorite way to enjoy Oregon blueberries is straight out of the carton when they have been chilled to the perfect temperature; devouring a pint in one sitting is not a surprising sight. We frequently add blueberries to yogurt parfaits, blueberry buttermilk pancakes, smoothie bowls, salads and so many more.
